John Long is the founder of Long’s Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning, an IICRC Master Cleaning Technician certified in 13 categories including Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning, Drapery & Fine Fabric Cleaning, Fire and Water Restoration and Odor Control. He also holds a Master Certification in Restaurant Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning, Furnace Air Duct Cleaning, and Dryer Vent Cleaning.
John is also presently serving as the Regional Supervisor of the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). He has also been an active member of the International Society of Cleaning Technicians (ISCT), as well as the Tristate Restorers and Specialty Cleaners Association. John has been in the cleaning business for almost 40 years. In that time, he has learned that there is so much confusion about carpet and upholstery cleaning. John has dedicated his business to helping homeowners get the highest return for their home investment. Long’s began in 1983 and has been serving the Tri-State Area for almost 40 years.
“Nearly 40 years ago, former coal miner, laid off Ormet worker, sweeper salesman, and gas station attendant John Long started Long’s Carpet Cleaning. With the situation, the way it was in the valley at that time, starting a new business seemed to be the only way to feed my wife and four small boys. We had begun to build a home when I got laid off and were stuck living in the basement of a very unfinished house. The fact that most businesses fail in the first year really had no effect on me, because the “only way was up” from where I was! In my short tenure as a sweeper salesman, I learned to clean carpets with their home carpet shampooer. The difference during my demo was always “night and day”.
I just loved seeing those results. I began doing some handyman work and cleaning some carpets on my own. Everyone loved the results and how quickly I could get the carpets to dry! In fact, I got a reputation for having the “Non-Soaking Method,” and it has stuck with me down to today. People just love it when we get the carpet dry in “half the time” of regular cleaning. So I looked at different opportunities and decided that carpet cleaning was my niche, and it’s really what I should have been doing all along! Our company grew, we invested in more and more advanced equipment, and I was like a sponge, attending schools and seminars at every chance I got.
Today, John is an IICRC Master Cleaning Technician, Master Restoration Technician, and have certifications in 13 categories including Fire and Water Restoration, Odor Control, Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery and Drapery Care, and much more. In the past, we have been involved in large fire and water restoration projects with a huge crew, but now we have chosen to focus on what we love most, our carpet and upholstery cleaning, tile and grout cleaning, furnace air duct cleaning, and some other specialized home cleaning services, along with some heavy-duty commercial cleaning we do for restaurants.
